Drive north to Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve by late morning. Fall means cooler air and fewer crowds, so the trails are yours. Take the Guy Fleming Trail for ocean views framed by twisted pines and sandstone cliffs. The wind carries salt and resin. Bring water, skip the gift shop.

By late afternoon, settle in at Sandpiper Wood Fired Grill & Oysters. The back patio is the move: wood smoke drifts from the grill, oysters arrive cold and briny, and the light softens as the sun drops. Order the grilled octopus and a dozen oysters. Pair with something crisp and white.
If you still have energy after dinner, walk down to Windansea Beach for the last light. The surf shack and granite outcrops frame the Pacific, and the waves fold in with a rhythm that makes conversation optional. Fall sunsets here are sharp and fast. Don't miss them.
